Coming up with a good question is the most important,
and often the hardest, part of your science project. Your question guides
every other step in your project.
A good question…
- is clear
- is specific
- identifies the variables ("What is the effect
of X on Y?")
is measurable
A bad question…
- is a question answered by "yes" or "no"
- has only two options ("Do plants grow better in fresh or salt
water?")
- is one you already know the answer to ("Do plants grow better
in the dark or in the light?")
- is one you could find the answer to in a book ("Why do volcanoes
erupt?")
Make sure your question fits into one of
the Categories
for science fair projects.
Don't forget to include in your Project
Log how you came up with your question!
